Using FileZilla to connect to FTP securely

FileZilla is a free and open source FTP client that will allow you to upload, download and edit files on your website securely.

To download FileZilla FTP client go here: https://filezilla-project.org/

Once this is installed here are the steps to connect to your NetHosted FTP account securely:

  1. Click File Menu -> Site Manager

  2. Choose New Site

  3. In the pop up box enter:

    Host: ftp.yourdomain.com or server.solardns.com
    (the servername is included in your welcome email, e.g. mercury.solardns.com if you are on the mercury server)
    Port: 21
    Servertype: FTPES – FTP over explicit TLS/SSL
    Logontype: Normal
    User: Included in welcome email
    Password: Included in welcome email

  4. Hit connect, a window will pop up saying Unknown Certificate, select Always trust certificate in future sessions in the bottom left and hit OK, you’re now connected.
